  • Road Test: Nissan Note (2006-)

    SAFETY AND SECURITY RATING:

Standard kit includes ABS anti-lock brakes, front and side airbags (with passenger airbag cut-off switch, should you wish to put a child seat up front) and Isofix child seat mounting points. There's not the full array of curtain airbags offered in some models these days with the lower-spec versions, but SE and SVE versions do add two more.

The Note is related to Renault's Clio and Modus, which have scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests, which bodes well for its structural integrity and the protection it can offer in the event of an impact. Top-spec models come with ESP stability control.

Security-wise, there are a number of useful places to stow away valuables, including a tray under the front passenger seat, compartments under the luggage board in the boot, and a 'hidden' - refrigerated - glovebox behind a map pocket in the passenger side of the dashboard. An immobiliser, remote central locking and 'super-locking' system are standard; SVE models add the option of the keyless entry Intelligent Key system, though whether this is actually a bonus is open to question.
