Nissan claims 23mpg
| RUNNING COSTS RATING: |
Here's where the Murano falls down. There's no diesel option, should you want to contain fuel costs, and that petrol returns a claimed 23mpg average, if you're lucky. Real-life driving figures are likely to be well under the 20mpg mark. With carbon dioxide output at 295g/km, it attracts a high tax banding, especially for company car tax payers, and if the UK's tax system gets ever more discriminatory against large, thirsty 4x4s, it could get even dearer to run. Residual (resale) values are a bit of an unknown just yet, and large Japanese vehicles don't tend to hold their value that well, though as Nissan expects to sell just 1000 Muranos a year in the UK, there's no danger the secondhand market will be flooded.
