  • Road Test: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX (2005-)

    SAFETY AND SECURITY RATING:

It hasn't been put through the EuroNCAP crash tests, but no Mitsubishi has yet scored more than three stars in these (though we'd expect the latest models to perform rather better). This is unlikely to deter most buyers, who'd probably consider themselves at the sharper end of the 'driving ability' scale anyway. Certainly, if you can use the Evo's considerable dynamic ability to your advantage, it's well-placed to avoid an accident in the first instance. All Evo IXs come with a Category 1 alarm and immobiliser. Fitting a tracking system may not be a bad idea either, and might help reduce insurance costs.
