| RUNNING COSTS RATING: |
 |
Even with a premium over petrol models of around £1200, the Grandis diesel should prove the cheaper to run in the long term, especially considering its 43mpg economy compared to the petrol's 31mpg.
Carbon dioxide emissions are 223g/km in manual guise and 237g/km in auto for the petrol and 176g/km for the Euro IV diesel, so fleet drivers won't be stung too badly by the taxman. Insurance grouping is an average of 14 across the range.
As a more stylish model, the Grandis should hold its value better than the old Mitsubishi Space Wagon in the longer term. Estimated retained value after three years is around 52 percent, which is better than most in the segment. Like all Mitsubishis, the Grandis is well screwed together and is bound to be reliable, so whether you buy new or used, you shouldn't go far wrong.
