Mazda ambitiously intends to class the 6 in with the 3-Series, Passat, A4 and so on, but it's really still there with the Mondeo, Laguna, Primera and Vectra. Mazda is also trying to build on its "heritage", but a series of rotary-engined sports cars and one Le Mans win in '91 are hardly relevant to a mid-market fleet or family car. However, it looks smart and modern, and a lot more distinctive than the 626. Or the Accord or Avensis, for that matter.
