This is a tough one.
Audi has done an absolutely brilliant job of building an image that combines designer cool with engineering substance; Mercedes is still trading on its past decades as the gold standard of quality and prestige; and BMW is still regarded as the dynamic king of the hill, with a bit of an aggressively racy edge thrown in for good measure.
Lexus has built an enviable reputation for quality, but its image is less defined than it is for obvious rivals. Still, we think this is the best-looking of the compact executive crowd - and that counts. And, this is becoming cliché, too, but for many, the fact that the IS isn't a BMW will be compelling.
