  • Road Test: Jaguar XK8/XKR (1996-)
    Convertibles
    Jaguar XK8/XKR (96- )
    COMFORT AND EQUIPMENT RATING:

Few cars are as relaxing as a Jaguar, and the XK8 is no exception. Automatic transmission, oodles of power and easily handled controls make this svelte mile-eater a pleasure on any trip. That said, the seats are not great for a car in this class - they lack the sophisticated features of some Mercedes' - and comfort is in very short supply for those banished to to the back. The ride is excellent, if a little knobbly in the performance tweaked XKR-R. Drivers significantly over six foot will feel confined, but should be able to get comfortable - smaller examples of the species should have no problem at all. But only in the front - the Jag's rear seats are near-useless in the coupe, and absolutely useless in the convertible, unless you're in the habit of carrying meerkats. The boot isn't great either. Oddments space is adequate. The good-quality, six-speaker sound system includes an RDS-equipped radio/cassette, plus a multi CD-player housed in the boot. A nine speaker(eight, in the case of the convertible)Premium sound system is optionally available.
