If you want prestige, this big, luxurious and obviously expensive car delivers it. It has presence, a truly British style and it's, well, very Jaguar. Forty years ago that meant a shapely car with an almost vulgar dash about it; more lately, the XJ series has exuded a middle class, gravel-drive traditionalism, and despite its high-tech innards, this version continues the theme. Whether that's enough to capture the minds and wallets of the baby-boomers remains to be seen - how many of children of the '60s ache to drive the car their grandfathers owned?
