  • Road Test: Jaguar X-Type (2001-)
    Compact Executive
    Jaguar X-Type
    RELIABILITY AND QUALITY RATING:

Jaguar may have scored well in the JD Power Customer Satisfaction survey, but the X-Type has done no better than average in other (UK) research and the condition of the press-launch X-Types suggested there was a way to go before this model is on target. Minor driveability glitches, wind noise, and handling and steering inconsistencies were all evident in cars on the original launch, and even on the 2005 launch for the 2.2 diesel, sample cars had loose trim and wobbly centre consoles. Owners of early cars reported a variety of problems, some minor, others more substantial, including electronic and engine management faults as well as problems with fit and finish. Owners have also reported some serious engine and transmission faults; a survey by Warranty Direct found that the X-Type racked up some of the largest bills for warranty work.
