  • Road Test: Honda Jazz (2002-)
    Superminis by: John Simister
    Honda Jazz (02-)
    PERFORMANCE RATING:

The performance figures are nothing special (0-62 mph takes 12.0 seconds) but the Jazz feels lively - much more so than, say, the new Fiesta 1.4 - with a smooth delivery of good pulling power. There's no VTEC system in this engine unlike in other, grander Hondas, so there are also no surges in output as the engine climbs up its rev range. The engine is almost inaudible at idle, to suit Japanese conditions where cars spend much of their time in traffic jams, but it's quite vocal when exercised, with a typical Honda metallic edge to its sound.
