  • Road Test: Honda Jazz (2002-)
    Superminis by: John Simister
    Honda Jazz (02-)
    RUNNING COSTS RATING:

The insurance group is a low 3E, CO2 emissions are in the lowest band and the official figures show a minimal fuel thirst. Having a cam chain instead of a belt will reduce maintenance costs, but there are twice as many spark plugs as usual to change. With a very strong private-buyer base, Hondas tend to hold their value well, so there are few bargains to be had. The Jazz's acceptance among younger buyers will influence its sales volumes, but used values will probably stay strong regardless. Against that, a used Honda is likely to prove dependable for many years so it would be a good long-term prospect. Starting prices look like impressive value, but most buyers are likely to opt at least for an SE to gain the air-con, the sunroof and the anti-lock brakes, which ups the outlay considerably.
