| SAFETY AND SECURITY RATING: |

The Accord has achieved a four-star result in the Euro NCAP crash tests - good, but not class-leading or outstanding, as some rivals have now scored five. Honda has, however, bolstered the Accord's active and passive safety levels over those of the outgoing range. All models now get four front airbags with the further option of curtain airbags that span the cabin length. The ABS brakes are backed up by electronic brake force distribution and assist, while the more powerful 2.4-litre models get vehicle stability assist. In the event of a front-on collision, the isolated front subframe that houses the suspension detaches to dissipate the energy of the impact and protect the passenger cell. The Accord's chassis is also stiffer - 13% over the outgoing car - and incorporates additional front and rear structural supports to further protect passengers. Honda has also paid closer attention to pedestrian safety, fitting the Accord with impact-absorbing front and rear bumpers, bonnet hinges and wiper bracket, scoring a respectable two stars in the NCAP pedestrian tests.
