  • Road Test: Ford Streetka (2003-)
    Convertibles by: Farah AlKhalisi
    Ford Streetka (03 - )
    RELIABILITY AND QUALITY RATING:

The mechanicals are well tried and tested - the Streetka's basic platform is derived from that of the hatchback Ka, and hence the last-generation Fiesta. The 1.6-litre Duratec engine is new to the Ka range (it also appears in the Sportka hatchback) but is also well-proven. The Ka hatchback has generally been dependable and sturdy, and the Streetka should be as well, though the finish of the cabin leaves much to be desired, with cheap, brittle plastics, some flimsy fittings such as the capsule-style glovebox, and, on the early example we drove, gaps and rough edges in the fascia sections. The hood hinges and fastening also seem rather fragile, and may not stand up well to rough treatment, but at least there's no complex electric folding mechanism to go wrong - there's a lot to be said for simplicity.
