  • Road Test: Ford Streetka (2003-)
    Convertibles by: Farah AlKhalisi
    Ford Streetka (03 - )
    PERFORMANCE RATING:

It's a good job Ford has fitted the 95bhp 1.6 engine, rather than the hatchback's 1.3 - the Streetka is considerably heavier than the Ka hatch, due to its extra structural strengthening. However, keen drivers will find even the 1.6 struggles to find power: you have to rev it pretty hard and stay in low gears to get perky performance, and it leaves you wanting more. The 0-60mph time of 12.1 seconds indicates that its acceleration is hardly eye-watering, anyway. We suspect most Streetkas will spend their lives pootling (and posing) around town, however, rather than being thrashed along back roads, so we won't be too harsh on it. It copes adequately - if noisily - at (legal) motorway speeds, and has enough torque (pulling power) for most overtaking manoeuvres.
