Ford Streetka
by Jane Duke 28.04.03
Not only have I driven one, but I have bought one (one of the first thousand apparently). Anyway, I love it. I think 4car is a little harsh in its report as my cabin is very
nicely finished off, and very cosy both with the hood down or up. Putting the hood up/down is an easy and speedy job which you do not need muscles like Sampson to
achieve. My nephew has a Peugeot 206 CC and his electric hood has a tendency to stick and takes longer than my manual one.
The engine is quite powerful enough to give a good turn of speed. It certainly is fast enough to keep up with the traffic on Britain's motorway system, if last Sunday on
the M1 is anything to go by. The Ford radio /stereo 6006 unit is first class, and I can more than hold my own with the 'Nova boys' who seem to think that anything less
than full volume is switched off. I also think that my StreetKa is infinitely better looking than the Peugeot 206CC, which to my mind has an arse like a sumo wrestler on
steroids! Ford have been very clever with the StreetKa, as it not only will appeal to the twenty-somethings but it's really appealing to my generation (post children at
university euphoria!). The great thing is watching the plutocrats in their Audi TT roadsters staring and wondering "is it?". Vorsprung Durch Technic has not yet been
applied to their critical faculties. Well done Ford - you are on to a winner!
