Ford's Streetka two-seater roadster is one of the most hyped cars of the last couple of years - you can't have missed its photo-opportunities with Kylie - and one of the longest-anticipated; we first saw it in concept form at the 1995 Turin Motor Show. The production Streetka is as endearing and as distinctive as the three-door Ka, though it shares many of the Ka's shortcomings: the age of its chassis design (derived from the last-generation Fiesta) is obvious, it is underpowered despite its 1.6-litre engine (also used in the hard-topped Sportka) and the cabin is clearly that of an entry-level city car, yet it has a somewhat steep price tag. It is also not as well specified as the rival Peugeot 206 CC, with only a manually-operated fabric hood, rather than a clever sliding metal roof. That said, the Streetka has the potential to be exceedingly lovable, it will be cheap to insure and to run, and there will be no shortage of buyers queuing for the limited number that will be produced for Ford by Pininfarina in Italy. It's not a serious driver's car, but will make a fun runaround and fashion accessory.
