| COMFORT AND EQUIPMENT RATING: |
 |
Ford has reduced NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels in this model, but it's still quite unrefined. The engine is noisy when pushed, clattering away from cold starting, and there is a lot of wind and tyre noise at speed. However, it doesn't ride too badly, though the live rear axle leads to a somewhat bouncy ride, the cabin is rather spartan and the seats are not very supportive for long journeys. Ford claims best-in-class capacity for the pick-up load bay, but the cabin's not quite so generous. The Super Cab, with its pillarless, rear-hinged side rear doors which open outwards for ease of access, has only rudimentary rear seats, for occasional or emergency use only, and the five-seater Double Cab isn't much roomier. There's more interior space in a Nissan Navara or Mitsubishi L200, should you need to carry rear seat passengers. The stereo equipment is pretty basic, but adequate - there are two six-inch speakers, though they will struggle to be heard at speed. Double Cab models have four speakers, with the extra two mounted in the rear door trims. A radio/cassette is standard, with XLT/Thunder models gaining a single-slot CD player, optional in the rest of the range. The storage box between the front seats will happily hold over 20 CDs in their cases - a great bonus. There's no satellite navigation offered.
