Like all off-roaders, the Maverick is ridiculously over-engineered for the suburban trekking that's likely to dominate its life. These vehicles, remember, are designed to withstand 'maverick' forays into the wilderness, which means the A38 holds little to fear. However, being American and thus hardly Germanic, interior quality is flaky in places. There are a few too many cheap plastics and tacky features - and too many beige plastics (mmm) - meaning the neat stereo and pretty instrument dials' impact is lost.
