| SAFETY AND SECURITY RATING: |
 |
It is seriously doubtful that anyone taken with the idea of owning such a car is going to be put off because it doesn't boast side airbags, air-curtains or any one of an ever increasing host of passive safety features possessed by most modern cars today. Each occupant gets one frontal airbag and the colossal brakes have four-channel anti-lock. But that's it. Traction control is provided by your right foot, to which you add your hand/eye coordination to provide the stability system.
And if this leaves you thinking the GT may not be the safest thing on four wheels, consider this: if you believe prevention is better than cure, the GT's ability to get out of danger is rivalled by only a handful of cars ever made. Its brakes are phenomenal - better by far than a Ferrari 360 Modena's anchors - its roadholding is of at least a commensurate standard and should you have to accelerate away from trouble, five hundred horsepower and pound feet of torque come in mighty handy. Should you hit something, there's a very substantial-looking aluminium spaceframe between you and the impact site.
