Hot hatchbacks fell out of favour a few years ago thanks to spiralling insurance premiums, but things have calmed down now and it's OK to enjoy yourself again. The Zetec S isn't really an out-and-out hot hatchback, but it's the 'warm' Fiesta in the current range, with a tuned version of the 1.6-litre engine fitted to the Focus. It might not be one of the more powerful contenders in the sporting hatchback class, but the Zetec S handles very well, is great fun to drive - and costs less than a proper hot hatch.
