Before the 2004 makeover, it all depended on what you reckoned to the Multipla's controversial looks. It was either one of the boldest, most imaginative cars ever, with lines which refused to hinder practicality - or an alien monstrosity. Sadly, slow sales suggested there may have been too many of the latter; a situation not helped by Fiat's fading image across Europe.
So something had to be done. Unfortunately, that something was to tone down the Multipla's distinctive looks, and hence its essential charm. Now, it rather looks like the Ulysse's frumpy little sister. Still, you can't have it both ways, can you? Fortunately, none of the Multipla's profile was disturbed, so passengers enjoy the same degree of shoulder and headroom as before.
