  • Road Test: Fiat Barchetta (1995-2002)
    Convertibles
    Fiat Barchetta (95- )
    DRIVING RATING:

Thanks to its Punto-based front wheel drive chassis the Barchetta should never get you into trouble on the road. Light controls, its small size and good visibility help too, though reversing hood-up with the (optional) wind-blocker in place needs care. The driving position is fairly good, but the stepped recline of the seat backrests can prevent you finding the optimum angle. The Barchetta is an alert, eager car with great steering, sharp throttle response and as much power as you'd want in a small ragtop like this. It lacks the sophistication and handling subtleties of some rivals but it has a pleasingly raffish charm.
