    IMAGE RATING:

If the 360 was just a little too Ocean Drive, the F430 brings the focus back to a racecar heritage. It looks smaller than it is, taut and focused on the business of going very quickly. The retro references in the various air passages are not pastiche, but a very functional celebration of Ferrari's own past - and then you notice the highly technical aerodynamic pieces, the 'fences' under the nose and the very obvious rear diffuser. Ferrari seizes every opportunity to tell us how the F430 is Formula One-inspired, but there are definite links and the F1 team and road-car team met frequently during the F430's development to exchange information and ideas. F1 chassis designer Rory Byrne drives a 360, and after driving the F430 declared the cars to be 'night and day'. And one Michael Schumacher had a significant testing input. These are good names to drop when you're showing your new F430 to your friends.
