The Sirion five-door hatchback is one of the rarest small hatchbacks on sale, but deserves to be better known. It offers good value for money, and completely blows the old Charade away in every aspect, though the smaller new Charade, a city car, is actually roomier inside. The styling is modern and there's a huge amount of equipment, even on the basic car, though the new higher-riding Daihatsu YRV looks less conservative and has a few more clever touches in its cabin. The 1.3-litre Sirion models are more appealing than the 1.0s, with the flexible Toyota-sourced engine with variable valve timing. The Rally 2 and Rally 4 aren't really sporting hot hatches, despite their names, though. The range also includes the four-wheel-drive Sirion 4trak, the logical successor to the much-loved Subaru Justy, now obsolete.
