  • Road Test: Daihatsu Sirion (1998-2005)
    Superminis
    Daihatsu Sirion (98- )
    COMFORT AND EQUIPMENT RATING:

The ride can get a little rough and bumpy at a low pace, but it smoothes out at speed, while the throbby three-cylinder engine is on the noisy side, but pleases with its enthusiasm. The 1.3 is quieter, though it's still not up with the European superminis in terms of refinement. The interior trim's not plush, but it's not too nasty either, and the Sirion+ has air conditioning as standard. The rear seats are generous, but legroom isn't, and you can't fit three adults in the back as the cabin's very narrow. The boot is generous for this class of car but by no means large. Just a radio/cassette, though the Sirion+ has four speakers. The sound quality's OK for a car this cheap. Black marks for the fiddly little buttons and controls.
