Crowd pleaserThe cute Matiz city car was facelifted late in 2000, and remains Daewoo's most competitive model. While not the liveliest runabout on the market, drivers sit high up, and benefit from undemanding controls and standard power steering. There are just two trim levels, SE and SE+. Basic models are just that; buyers after a bit more safety equipment and/or creature comforts can plumb the options list. It's available with two petrol engines, a 800cc three-cylinder and a 1.0-litre four-cylinder. The Matiz is sometimes available as a special edition, which could offer more kit, or come with appealing finance options. Global giant General Motors has bought out Daewoo after the Korean company went bankrupt in 2002; GM Daewoo cars all take advantage of three years' free servicing.
