| RUNNING COSTS RATING: |
 |
Remarkably low. For a start, it doesn't cost much to buy one, and then you'll get free servicing for three years too. Insurance costs are low, at group 2 for the 0.8, and 3 for the 1.0-litre. Fuel economy is similarly impressive for both, the 0.8-litre returning 46.3mpg on the combined cycle, and the 1.0-litre 44.1mpg. In truth, if you drove both at the same speed, you'd use fewer revs in the 1.0-litre and probably equalise those consumption figures. The bigger (newer) engine has the better carbon-dioxide emissions too, though neither is a poster child for Green compaigners, at 158g/km and 161g/km. The Matiz has by far the best resale value of any Daewoo, and because of the tax and running cost benefits associated with running a small, economical car, it makes a good used purchase. The Matiz used to be an absolute bargain but it's now not the only car you can buy for under seven grand and the basic Matiz comes in poverty trim. Holds its value reasonably well though and free servicing for three years is worth at least a few hundred pounds. So while it's not as appealing as it once was, it's still competitive.
