  • Road Test: Daewoo Matiz (2000-)
    City Cars
    Daewoo Matiz (00- )
    COMFORT AND EQUIPMENT RATING:

For the town driver, the Matiz is fine. With two adults in the front, things get a little tight, and the back isn't the roomiest either, though its typical occupants - children - should be comfortable enough. With the littler engine buzzing away, it isn't that quiet; the 1.0-litre is better. The ride is a bit bouncy too, though this is less noticeable around town than on the open road, where you'll also encounter a fair degree of wind and tyre roar. Its diminutive exterior dimensions mean the Matiz isn't huge on the inside. Front-seat passengers will have enough head and legroom, while the upright driving position is neither cramped nor uncomfortable. This is a slim runabout though, limiting elbowroom. The rear seats aren't for large people but they do split and fold 60:40; and with five doors, the Matiz is surprisingly usable. The boot is reasonably sized, too. All Matiz models come with the same RDS radio-cassette system; a CD player is optional. Forget about sat-nav.
