  • Road Test: Citroen Saxo (1996-2002)
    City Cars
    Citroen Saxo (96-02)
    RUNNING COSTS RATING:

Servicing comes up just once every 12,500 miles, although low-mileage local use will call for at least an annual visit. Insurance groups are low, residual values reasonable. There are large numbers of this excellent supermini around, which has depressed values, although a 1999 revamp freshened the model's appeal. Safe buys for easy future resale are the slow but frugal diesel and the 1.4. The VTS look-alike 1.1 Furio is also a good bet for teenagers. Not the most glamorous or high-tech of superminis, the Saxo is nevertheless well-equipped, cheap and fun to drive. Exceptional deals from Citroen boost this further - look out for impressive 'Cashback' offers.
