  • Road Test: Citroen Saxo (1996-2002)
    City Cars
    Citroen Saxo (96-02)
    COMFORT AND EQUIPMENT RATING:

Citroens have a reputation for riding smoothly, and the Saxo keeps to the script. Its suppleness is remarkable in a car so small. The seats prove comfortable on long journeys, and noise levels are low at speed. Facia features a novel pull-out centre vent. Very cramped next to the far more spacious C3, and the Saxo's biggest downfall; headroom is especially lacking for tall people, while adults in the back will complain, too. In its defence, the boot's usefulness is heightened by the rectangular, uncluttered shape that lie-flat rear suspension units allow. Cabin storage space could be better, and not all models get a split rear seat. It's simple, but works well enough. Even the base-model has RDS, with many upper-range models featuring a neat CD player.
