Outright pace isn't very impressive, but the HDi engine's refined running and vigorous mid-range pulling power make for speedy, relaxed open-road progress and stress-free cruising. The C8 is especially good at powering up motorway inclines. Pulling power at very low speeds is surprisingly poor for a diesel, however, with no contribution from the turbocharger until the revs rise. This meagre off-boost torque makes the C8 easy to stall until you're used to it. The 2.2 160 bhp petrol engine is powerful, but seems inappropriate for this type of vehicle.
