| RELIABILITY AND QUALITY RATING: |
 |
The C4 marks a new approach for Citroen in more than just its radical interior design. There's a convincing feeling of quality here, with more soft-touch surfaces than you'll find in the latest Focus or Golf and an air of substance and solidity. Most versions have laminated side glass, whose noise-reducing properties improve refinement and heighten the quality feel, and the external panel fits are neat and tight. Some pre-production cars we drove had imperfect facia mouldings, though, in which the passenger airbag's breakout-line was too obvious. This is to be fixed for full production.
It's too soon to know about long-term reliability, but the mechanical components are well proven and the architecture is broadly Peugeot 307. The PSA Group's multiplex wiring system appears reliable so far. This Citroen has no suspension hydropneumatics to frighten technophobes, and there's no reason why the gearing system in the steering wheel - it allows that centre boss to be stationary - should give trouble.
