    IMAGE RATING:

This is tricky. Citroen has a reputation as one of the car industry's most original-thinking carmakers, which has survived in the motoring public's subconscious despite the company's recent-past efforts to bury its heritage in favour of reinvention as a budget brand. Now Citroen has realised the value of what it has, and is capitalising on it again but this time without frightening off buyers. The C4 is clever without being wilfully odd, and to own one shows you're into new technology, gadgets, the modern world of easy electronics. The C4 is a car for today, but there's still the stigma of the mad discounting with which Citroen has built its impressive market share. If anything chips away at the C4's credibility it is this, even though the car itself is good enough in its own right to deserve a better fate.
