Citroen C2

I tested a Citroen C2 1.1 LX on launch day (19/9/03), this being the only demonstrator the dealers had available. I was pleasantly surprised by the 1.1 engine's acceleration at low speeds, and in general I would conclude that it would make a very good town car. However, at speeds of above 50 mph, the acceleration was less good, and the car became noticeably noisy. The steering was also rather uncommitted, so I would not recommend it to anyone who does a lot of rural or motorway driving.
The interior of the LX was quite basic, with rather too much plastic. Most things, such as a sun roof, and ABS, were optional extras on this model. The 1.4 versions of the car come with Sensodrive as standard, whereas the model had the manual gearbox. I found the gearbox something of a guessing game as to which gear the car was in, whilst the clutch was extremely soft. Citroen have fitted this car with automatic activation of the hazard warning lights, which come on if you brake sharply or slow down rapidly. They activated during my test drive, which was annoying, but I felt could also be potentially dangerous.
