Citroen is positioning the C1 very much as a entry-level car, and have avoided using any references to sportiness - that's the marketing message reserved for its C2 supermini. The entry-level Citroen lacks some of the Fiat Panda's visual draw, but pips the Kia Picanto for overall cachet in this market segment. This is key, because while younger buyers may not have the money to plump for more prestigious badges such as Volkswagen, they are acutely aware of the status hierarchy of fashion items like cars, and Citroen still ranks above the Korean automakers here. Meanwhile, at the other end of the buying continuum, empty-nesters aren't likely to feel that the unassuming C1 is too brash.
