| Road Test: Bristol Blenheim 3S (2001-) |

With new big-valve, gas-flowed heads and a unique-to-Bristol inlet manifold, this new S version of the Blenheim has increased muscle. Bristol doesn't reveal figures but it is likely to be something over 300 bhp with an extra 500 rpm released at the top end. Certainly no apologies have to be made for the car's performance: bury your foot into the carpet and it rockets away, the rev-counter flicking round to 6000 rpm with remarkable vigour. Bristol claims 149 mph and 0-60 in 5.9 seconds for the standard car and the S should be even more potent. The macho, muscle-car exhaust note from the four tailpipes is perhaps a little out of character with the smooth image.
