The Z4's bodyshell is 2.5 times stiffer than the floppy Z3's, and incorporates both the windscreen frame and the two rear roll-over bars into the main body structure. Four airbags are standard, as are systems to help avoid accidents: anti-lock brakes, stability control and so on. The run-flat tyres let you drive for up to 90 miles with no air in them provided you don't exceed 50mph, and a tyre pressure monitor lets you know there may be a problem even before the tyre has lost its air. There is no spare wheel. The doors have deadlocks, and an immobiliser is built into the remote central locking and alarm system.
