| RELIABILITY AND QUALITY RATING: |
 |
Reliability should be as good as that of the 3-Series, many of whose components the Z4 shares. The quality, too, is well up to BMW's usual standards, which wasn't always true of the Z3. The shutlines and panel joins which are such a feature of the styling have to be consistent if the Z4 is to avoid looking like a loose collection of disparate panels, and fortunately they are. Inside, too, all is solid and sumptuous, the hood fits snugly and there are no squeaks, rattles or shakes. The only downbeat note is struck by the inside of the bootlid, which is neither lined nor finished with proper topcoat and lacquer.
