    RELIABILITY AND QUALITY RATING:

M5s have had few reliability issues in the past. Despite the car's impressive technical specifications, most are used as every day transport, and so rack up big mileages. According to BMW, 60,000 miles a year is not uncommon. There have also been few reliability concerns with the standard 5-Series, but the car hasn't yet started appearing in customer satisfaction surveys, which will be the truest available measure of reliability.

In terms of quality, it's by and large very good. The bodywork fit and appearance is fine, and the interior seems well constructed. The dash's pop-out cupholders feel a little flimsy, however, and the interior door handles are plastic, rather than metal.
