  • Road Test: Audi A8 (2003-)
    Large Executive by: Matt Prior
    Audi A8 (03- )
    IMAGE RATING:

Audi does understated and subtle. One of the most appealing things about the brand (for some) is that it isn't a flash BMW or Mercedes. Yet unlike a Lexus or Jaguar, it has the cachet of being a top-end German brand, but without the perceived arrogance that some people see in a Beemer or a Merc. Nobody's likely to make rude hand signals at you if you're in an Audi. You might even get let out of a junction now and then. Audi is a progressive brand though, and the A8 is supposed to be at the sporting end of the luxury segment, so it's a shame that the A8 isn't a bit less conservative, especially when BMW, with its striking 7-Series, seems to have stolen some ground on the A8 in terms of dynamism. Perhaps a little more TT, a little less old A8, would have been earned it the full five stars.
