  • Road Test: Alfa Romeo 156 (1997-2002)
    Compact Executive

    Alfa 156 2.4 JTD
by Ian & Jenny Wasson 28.07.03

We've had our Sportwagon since September 2002 and frankly it has been the best, most beautiful car we've owned. It gives pleasure literally looking at it as you leave the house; the design beats anything else on the road - just compare the ugly body lines and fussiness on the BMW 3-Series to the flowing lines of the 156. We are still amazed how many people stop and look at it as you drive past; the interior design has all the flair and styling you would expect from the Italians and the drive is smooth and relaxed. We would certainly get another Alfa, although for us the jury is still out on the facelifted 156 due in September. The nose style looks great on the 147 but they should have left the 156 alone with the new family look. This car, we are convinced, will be one of the style classics in 20 to 30 years' time.
