Sofa Speedway mayhem at Beaulieu
On Sunday 11th June 2006 Scrapheap Challenge took the National Motor museum by storm when it staged the world's first sofa speedway. Sixteen teams drove their own home-built motorized furniture. Fishtank, dinner tables, beds, kitchens, bathrooms and even pool tables raced frantically around a course plagued with hazards including chicaines, width restrictors and even a skidpan. A fantastic day out was had by all and if you want to see what happened look out for the programme at the end of this year. |
"Welly Wanging" at The Great Dorset Steam Fair
After the success of the Sofa Speedway Roadshow, we decided to hit the road again. On August 30th Scrapheap Challenge visited the Great Dorset Steam Fair to hold the World's first mechanical 'Welly Wanging' contest. 16 teams from across the UK flocked to the World's biggest Steam Fair to pit their home-built footwear flingers against each other. At stake was a showdown with our House Team, The Scrapheap All Stars. You can see the Welly Wanging Roadshow in all its glory when the new series of Scrapheap Challenge broadcasts on C4 in 2007.
