Citroen's 1955 DS has won a 'product of the century' accolade at the FX International Design Awards, hosted by Jonathan Ross. The DS, a large, futuristic saloon famous for fluid suspension that allowed it to rise and fall, was built for 20 years, and is still considered one of the most advanced cars ever to have gone into production.
The DS beat off competition from the Boeing 747, the Apple Macintosh, the Baygen wind-up radio, the Bic Biro and the lunar landing module to win the accolade. Citroen is obviously delighted, all the more so because it has recently unveiled a concept car - the C6 Lignage - which was clearly influenced by the DS. The C6 is likely to make production, ending years of lacklustre designs from the once highly imaginative French car maker.
