A smart motorist who fitted a black-box recorder to his beloved sports car found that mechanics had been using it for 120mph joyrides.
The mechanics at the workshop in Redditch were supposed to be fixing a leaky radiator on the £30,000 Vauxhall Monaro but they had been taking it out for high-speed jaunts.
The owner fitted a Roadhawk black-box recorder to the car, and when he noticed that the fuel tank was almost empty on its return he checked the video footage to see what had happened.
'I looked at the video from the Roadhawk and was completely stunned,' said the owner who does not want to be identified. 'They had taken it out for a spin on the A435 at 120mph. When I confronted the garage they denied it. Then I told them I had the video and they admitted everything and apologised.'
Video captured during the incident, which has been posted on YouTube, shows the driver overtaking cars and lorries on the A435 Alcester Road between Redditch to Portway. The vehicle speeds past a garage at 100mph, before hitting a narrow slip-road at 90mph and continuing through country lanes.
