Fledgling British sports car maker Keating says its new TKR supercar is set to take the title of World's Fastest Production Car.

At last week's MPH Show in London the company claimed the TKR had posted an unofficial top speed of 260.1mph during tests at the California Salt Lake Flats last month.

In the first of two runs the 7.0-litre, 1,800bhp supercar reportedly smashed the current record beating the top speed of existing title holder, the Shelby-built 1183bhp SSC Ultimate Aero TT, by 3mph. If Keating wants to get into the Guinness Book of World Records and beat the SSC it must achieve the feat again.

The rear-wheel-drive TKR is made of a steel spaceframe structure (or optional carbon-fibre) and uses a GM-sourced V8 engine mated to a Porsche five-speed transmission.

Customers can opt for the lesser 6.0-litre engine which comes as a naturally aspirated, turbocharged or supercharged unit. It is available in limited numbers by the end of the year and Keating is now taking orders.
