Vauxhall are offering to pay the VAT for their customers who buy before the end of November.
The company's 'beat the VAT' offer could save buyers up to £4,260 on their new car.
Vauxhall will cover the 15% equivalent to the VAT cost of any new car, provided it is registered before the end of 2009.
Vauxhall Retail Sales Director Rory Harvey said: 'Customers across all walks of life are aware that VAT will be going up again as of January 1, so we wanted to make sure that anyone buying a new Vauxhall car would have the opportunity to avoid paying it altogether.
'This initiative will save motorists thousands, with reductions of over £4,000 on selected Vauxhall models - more than enough to cover the extra cost of the VAT on the rest of their daily purchases throughout the New Year and still leave them with cash to spare.'
Nissan, meanwhile, is also offering a VAT cut for buyers who order a 2009 registered vehicle.
Anyone who orders their new Nissan before December 31 2009 and takes delivery before March 31 2010 will get the government's VAT increase knocked off the price.
That means that, as long as they buy before the end of the year, Nissan customers will pay 15% VAT instead of the 17.5% rate due to come into effect on January 1.
Nissan's UK MD, Paul Willcox comments: 'The transition from one VAT rate to another has the potential to leave car buyers paying more than they expect when they take delivery. To avoid any such problems with a new Nissan, we have decided to take the VAT increase out of the equation. Buyers can add this to the lengthy list of reasons for choosing a new Nissan in 2009.'
