BMW has its sights set on a second Mini production line at its Regensburg factory in Germany to complement the output at Cowley.
Frank-Peter Arndt, head of car production at BMW, told the Independent on Sunday newspaper: 'Given the strong growth of the Mini brand, we will have to think about a further production site. We could imagine a German factory for the production of Mini-based models.'
The introduction of the Roadster and Coupe Mini means output at the Cowley plant will reach full capacity and BMW's long-term aim is to increase the number of German-built Minis. The forthcoming Mini R60 Crossover is expected to be built at the Magna plant in Graz, Austria.
