Tesla has been forced to take all 345 Roadsters sold in the US off the roads because of fears that a bolt on the rear axle may work loose.

US safety authority NHTSA issued a recall for all of the electrically powered sports cars built between March 2008 and April 2009.

Investigations revealed that the bolt in question may not have been tight enough during construction. Fears are, that in the worst-case scenario, the 252bhp's roadster will be difficult to steer and could cause an accident.

Tesla will be correcting the fault free of charge.

The company has also produced three videos about its forthcoming Model S. In the first video (the other two haven't been released yet) designer Franz von Holzhausen talks about the design philosophy for the car with footage of the car shown in the background.

The Model S is due to go on sale in 2011.
