The new 171mph BMW X5 M sports 4x4 made its world debut at the Shanghai Motor Show today.
The sported-up version of the BMW X5 is due to go on sale in October and it, and the forthcoming X6 M, will be the first SUVs in the German manufacturer's range to get the M treatment.
The X5 M will use a new twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8, which produces 547bhp and maximum torque of 501lb-ft delivered between 1,500rpm and 5,650rpm. There's also the M Sports Automatic transmission which features six ratios, launch control and paddleshifts.
As a result the X5 will go from 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds and then up to limited top speed of 155mph. Top speed extends to 171mph with the optional M driver's package.
Appropriately, the new X5 M gets exterior changes to go with its increased performance. Air intakes in the front bumper, gills on the front wings and quad exhaust pipes at the rear make up the selection of external upgrades.
