Porsche 928 GT
Porsche head honchos have let it slip that they are considering building a replacement for the 80s classic, the 928.
Design boss Michael Maur said concentrating on launching the new Panamera is also working on a plan to add a fifth model to the range.
The firm's head of sales and marketing Klaus Berning, also said the large coupe sector of the market was of particular interest since sales of entry level Porsches such as the Boxster and Cayman are falling. If the new car gets the go-head it could rival models such as the Bentley Continental GT.
The new car could well come in the form of a three-door with a hatch similar to that on the 928, which now enjoys cult status, and is likely to use the chassis from the Panamera. No date for the launch of the new car has been set.
Engine-wise, it's anyone's guess but Porsche might want to use it as a way of introducing smaller powerplants and new technology designed to improve fuel economy and lower emissions.
